We have been performing our Comedy and Magic shows across many different care homes, residential and specialist units’ settings for the past 5 years, so we have encountered a huge range of audiences. We have performed for as little as 2 or 3 people, up to around 100 people (including staff, family and friends). We usually find a slightly more intimate setting is best, so around 15 to 30 people is ideal.
Our shows last 1 hour, though we always reflect our audience’s needs and requirements, so sometimes they last anywhere between 50 minutes and 70 minutes. On occasion, we have split the shows between floors of a care home, though this typically requires more organising, so we do charge extra for this.
The shows themselves have been specifically designed for a whole range of different cognitive abilities. We have been performing them across the country for a wide variety of audiences, from people with physical disabilities, to those with dementia and complex needs, through to neurological units.
Obviously every individual and groups have their own specific needs, and we do our best to cater for these requirements, so the shows are very visual, integrate repetition and audience participation, and have a lot of music and nostalgia built in.
To see some examples of what you we get up to, how we involve the residents, and their responses and reactions to what we do, you can see our Facebook page that’s full of previous home’s sharing our shows. This is at https://www.facebook.com/agmagicians/

A little bit about us: we are father-and-son magicians and comedians, and have been performing together for over 15 years. For the past 4 years, since the pandemic, we have been focusing on and specialising in shows for Care Home audiences.
George is a trained psychologist who had previously worked in the NHS for around 30 years, specialising in accessibility, neurodiversity and training.
Alex is a professional actor who studied working with marginalised groups and whose background includes exploring mental health, disability and LGBTQ+ communities and representing these groups in the theatre.
George began learning magic in the earl 1990’s as a communication tool to reach hard-to-place and vulnerable adults, and Alex has been involved in magic since he was 10-years-old.
Together we bring a unique combination of informed, caring and carefully designed approaches to our Comedy and Magic shows, as well as a love of classic, old-school variety entertainment that’s engaging, fun and entertaining.
We tend to arrive around half an hour early, as we need about 10/15 minutes in the room to get ready and setup. Ideally, all we require is a space of about 6 feet wide and about 4 feet deep, as we could do with a table to set up on and to perform in front of. Apart from that, we bring all our equipment (which is wireless).
As far as setting up the space, we have found a semi-circle around our table (usually in front of the TV) is the best set up. If setting up rows, we would require as much access to the residents as possible, as we try our best to include everyone, which often involves us going out to pass them items or giving them the microphone.
We are based in Birmingham, but we do travel across the country. Mostly we are able to easily travel across the West and East Midlands, Liverpool and its surrounding areas, Manchester and its surrounding areas, Newport, Cardiff and South Wales, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Northampton and Northamptonshire.
We do cover London and Greater London, but this incurs an extra fee to do so.
We are happy to consider outside of these areas, but we do have to take into account our travel, so it may incur a greater fee.
Yes, we have many different shows.
